Tensions Rise After Republican Agenda Pushed in Senate
The Labour Party and Green Socialist Union are today attempting to push their constitutional alteration bill (to establish a republic) through the Senate, using to their advantage the absent of 2 Conservative Senators and 1 Legentarian First Senator who are engaged in campaign activities. Senator Tristan Gross, Leader of the Opposition in the Senate and Senator Sally Farteigh, Leader of the Greens in the Senate this morning announced they would be both proposing the bill and expected it to pass in the same sitting, bypassing the committee stage. Sir Emerson Miles, Leader of the Government in the Senate and Minister for Defence informed the media this morning that this was a "political tactic to bypass democracy" and "this will not end well for them in the election".
